Manteigas manufacture I Ecolã

The village of Manteigas is located high in the Portuguese mountains of the Serra da Estrela where the artisanal art of wool weaving is being transmitted through the generations. The Ecola factory works with the sheep breed of the mountain range: the Bordaleira sheep. Their work is done in four stages: shearing, wool selection, spinning and weaving. High-quality pieces are then made and sold. Ecola's business is all about quality, maintaining tradition and respecting nature; these were the values that attracted us during a non-professional visit in their workshop.
